What is Flat-Lay Photography?

Flat-lay photography is a style of product photography in which items are laid flat on a surface and photographed from directly above.

Why it matters

Flat-lays are fast, cheap and consistent, which makes them the most common way small and mid-sized fashion brands photograph products. They show colour, print and overall shape clearly.

Their limitation is fit: a flat-lay cannot show how a garment drapes, where a hem falls on the body or how structured a jacket is when worn.

How Pixigen helps

Pixigen accepts a flat-lay as its input and turns it into on-model images — the fastest way to add fit and drape to a catalog shot flat.
